French gaming site 01Net who have received leaked information about consoles such as the Wii U in the past have reported that Nintendo is currently busy working on a new design 3DS. Apparently the redesigned Nintendo 3DS will launch sometime next year.
“This information corroborates several elements we obtained very recently from various sources. According to them, Nintendo is currently preparing a new 3DS for a 2012 release. This new version would radically tone down the whole ’3D’ angle, with a new design and even probably a different name. In that perspective, the radical price-slashing, touted as a measure to boost sales, would also be a way to liquidate current stocks to make way for the successor…”
The 3DS has got off to a very slow start thanks mostly to it’s price and lack of good games, most that gamers want not launching until the end of this year or sometime next. A new designed 3DS could be what’s needed, although launching one quite so soon will annoy gamers who have just bought a 3DS or who plan to have one near Christmas to tie in with getting the decent games.
