Nintendo is currently holding a tour around the UK showcasing the latest Nintendo 3DS games with an emphasis on Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7. The tour is currently at the Westfield shopping center in Derby. Which me and Seb King, a global moderator on the forums, visited earlier today. I was actually quite surprised by the amount of games they had there, I was personally only expecting the two Mario games, but they also had Luigi’s Mansion 2, as well as Kid Icarus, amongst other already released games.
As the tour goes, it was quite impressive seeing a Nintendo themed stand in a middle of shopping center. They even had someone dressed up in a Mario costume which gave the event a more fun feel. As usual with these events the staff didn’t really seem to know what they were talking about and seemed to repeat the same rehearsed line whenever asked a question, when asked a more technical question, they were stumped. An example being when I asked if the Sky 3D player would be coming to the Nintendo 3DS anytime soon, in which I got an answer implying they didn’t even know the demo had anything to do with Sky, saying it might be on the eshop, but they had no idea. Actually Sky has provided some content on the video service on the 3DS, but only small clips, nothing like what was implied in the demo they were showing.
They also had a Mario Kart 7 competition going on, where whoever got the fastest race time won a year’s subscription to Official Nintendo Magazine, and whoever got the fastest race time at the location over the days it was there would win a Metallic Red Nintendo 3DS. They gave us chance to practice on the Mario Kart 7 demo first, then they let us have a go at the course. Everyone was restricted to the same course, same accessories on the Kart, and same character, Mario. Despite getting a couple of mushrooms whilst driving around the course, I only got a score of 1:56min, Seb got a score of 1:54min, which appeared to only be average, some of the other people were getting as high as 1:46min by the time we were leaving, I don’t know how they did it, but if you want a chance at winning that Nintendo 3DS, I would recommend practicing on the demo till you get your time down below 1:50.
