This week saw “Black Friday” in America; a day following Thanksgiving where customers rush to shops in crazy hordes, with some pepper spraying each other (yeah, that actually happened…) to get bargains before the Christmas season. During this period, Nintendo broke quite a few records:
Sales of the Nintendo 3DS itself rose by 49% on the week of 13th November (compared to sales from the week of the 6th). Sales during the week of the 20th were 325% of the sales during the week of the 6th, USA Today reports.
They also mention that Super Mario 3D Land has become the fastest selling Mario handheld game in history, selling more than 500,000 copies since launch (presumably that figure excludes Japan and Europe, although it hasn’t been stated). The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword meanwhile, has become the fastest selling Zelda title ever, having sold over 535,000 copies. The Nintendo Wii console also saw a significant rise in sales with more than 500,000 units sold on just Black Friday alone.
With Mario Kart 7 set to launch next week in Europe and America and Fortune Street shortly after, it is set to be a busy holiday season for Nintendo.
