The Nintendo 3DS had a rocky start when it first launched last March. People were expecting it to fail and sales reflected that, so Nintendo announced a price cut in the middle of 2011. This was then followed by a string of first party titles released around the Christmas period, such as Super Mario 3D Land, Super Pokémon Rumble , Mario Kart 7 and in Japan – Monster Hunter Tri G.
Now the 3DS has beaten Nintendo sales records, having sold 1,492,931 units in December alone – which andriasang reports as being the highest since Enterbrain’s records began in 1997.
Sony’s PlayStation Vita was the second highest selling hardware between 28th November and 25th December (having been launched on 17th December), managing to sell 402,794 units.
