The first 3DS game to sell over 5 million units is… you guessed it, Super Mario 3D Land, as if I needed to say. Mario’s first 3D adventure sure has been a hit, and Mario Kart 7 is drawing close to the 5 million mark too with 4.54 million units sold around the world.
Nintendo have also told us that gamers are ready for next generation consoles. Iwata told investors that it wasn’t just the Wii slowing down in sales, and that gamers are waiting for the next gen to start:
“However, not just the Wii, but the overall performance of home consoles in December was lower than the previous year, and I think that the market is now waiting for a new proposal for home consoles.” – Iwata
Finally Iwata ensured investors that as of April 2012, the glasses free 3D handheld will stop losing money on each unit sold and instead gain it! Hooray!
“I would like to begin with the product profitability of the Nintendo 3DS hardware, which has affected our profit the most for the current fiscal year.
Let me first inform you that, in the first half of the next fiscal term, we are now anticipating to get out of the situation that we sell the hardware below cost.”
