On Saturday, Capcom held a special event to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the Ace Attorney series of court-room drama games. During which, Ace Attorney 5 was announced for an unknown platform. However, President and CEO of Level-5, Akihiro Hino did make an announcement regarding the upcoming 3DS crossover Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney, which sees Phoenix Wright having to team up with Level-5’s Professor Layton in an alternate world known as Labyrinth City, which is still dominated by witch trials, to defend accused witches and uncover the mystery behind the city and the “Story Teller”; a villain who can seemingly make whatever he writes reality.
The game will feature animation from the renowned Japanese animation studio BONES, who are widely known for animating hits such as Fullmetal Alchemist (including the subsequent Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood), Soul Eater and more recent detective anime, such as Gosick and Un-Go. Screenshots of a short video that was shown at the event can be seen here (scroll down).
Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney is due out in Japan for the Nintendo 3DS later this year. No international release date has been confirmed at this time.
