Square Enix’s upcoming RPG Bravely Default: Flying Fairy has caught the intrigue of western gamers with only a few screenshots and demo videos shown despite the fact that a Japanese release date has yet to be confirmed, never mind a European or American release. However, the excitement keeps on building as Square Enix has announced that 5pb.’s Naotaka Hayashi is working on the game’s scenario. Hayashi is more commonly known as the scenario writer for 5pb.’s PC visual novel games Chaos;Head and Steins;Gate – the latter of which received critical acclaim when White Fox adapted the game into a 24 episode anime series last year.
While neither visual novels have been released in the Western world, the science-fiction sci-fi thriller Chaos;Head was adapted into an anime by MADHOUSE in 2008 and was released in North America by FUNimation Entertainment late last year. Steins;Gate‘s previously mentioned anime adaptation has been licensed by FUNimation Entertainment in North America, as well as KazéUK in Europe (who also simulcast the series on their website AnimeOnDemand). Mamoru Miyano, the voice actor for Rintarō Okabe in Steins;Gate (as well as Cilan in Pokémon Best Wishes) won the award for Best Actor in Newtype’s 2011 Anime Awards, while Okabe himself won the award for Best Male Character.
Akihiko Yoshida (Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics, Final Fantasy XII) is handling the character designs, with Tomoyo Asano (Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy IV DS and Fullmetal Alchemist: Curse of the Crimson Elixir) is producing the game.
