Augmented Reality is arguably one of the Nintendo 3DS’ more interesting features, although not many games have utilised the technology – the only ones that spring to mind for me are the console’s built in AR applications, Pokédex 3D, Nintendogs + Cats and Kid Icarus: Uprising.
However, Tecmo Koei’s survival horror game Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir, a spin off of their famous Project Zero series (known elsewhere in the world as Fatal Frame) is known for its use of Augmented Reality with the “Diary of Faces” AR notebook that is bundled in the game and the 3DS’ outer camera acting as the series’ “Camera Obscura” which allows players to defend against ghosts which is said to practically blend the game world with our own.
While the game was recently released in the United States, Nintendo Europe has announced that the game will be released on 29th June, along with a remake of the critically acclaimed PlayStation 2 game Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterly known as Project Zero 2: Wii Edition on, you guessed it – the Nintendo Wii. Project Zero 2 is widely regarded as one of the scariest video games ever made and an American release has yet to be confirmed.
Will you be picking up any of these games?
