Mario has been featured in numerous sports related spin off games for a while now, but one would argue that few have been as fun as the Mario Tennis series; Nintendo realise this, so they recently announced that the series would be arriving on the Nintendo 3DS this May. After hearing the odd bits and bobs regarding the game’s features, thanks to a report on Nintendo Life has revealed some more goodies, as well as reaffirming some previously known features such as the online leaderboards.
StreetPass Functionality: Using the 3DS’ StreetPass feature, players can show off their Mii outfits to other players and share their winning streaks, as well as bring up a computer-controlled version of players they’ve met to face in StreetPass Matches or Ring Shot challenges.
Unlockable Characters: Some characters can be unlocked through gameplay, while others can only be unlocked through the use of QR Codes – examples include Luma (from “Super Mario Galaxy”), Baby Mario and Dry Bowser (Basically, the Dry Bones version of Bowser).
Ink Showdown: Piranha Plants spit ink balls from the back of the court, leaving you to destroy them before they splatter, while hitting balls away from your opponent.
“Victory Medals” can be won from players you defeat. Defeating playerswill help build up your Open Match standing, which will help you progress up the monthly leaderboards.
So, will you be buying “Mario Tennis Open” when it is available in your region?
