“Tales of the Abyss” for the Nintendo 3DS may have been a port of a PlayStation 2 game, but it was a port of a game that was never originally released in Europe. It was also rather hard to find, which might have made one think that this would impact the game’s sales. While we don’t have any exact figures of how it performed sales wise, we do know that it surpassed Namco Bandai’s expectations in Europe – so much so that it could even lead to more “Tales Of” games being localised in the future.
An article on 3DSBuzz states that despite a lack of advertising, the game’s European sales were so strong that multiple further print runs were ordered and Namco Bandai even regretted not giving the title more advertising. However, they are now aware that a lot more people in Europe are interested in the franchise than originally thought and with the game’s anime-style visuals, they could have found themselves a nice niche.
