Admit it, even if you aren’t the biggest “Monster Hunter” fan, you cheered when “Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate” was announced for the 3DS and Wii U during the last Nintendo Direct. The games aren’t due out in the west until March 2013, but that hasn’t stopped people getting hyped for it. However, some people were left asking “Well, what about us who still play Monster Hunter Tri?”.
“Monster Hunter Tri” was released for the Wii in 2009 (2010 internationally) and was a hit. However, Capcom Senior Vice-President Christian Svensson has revealed that the online servers for the previous game will be taken down at some point in the future, although they will give plenty of time between the announcement of when and the servers actually going offline. The online mode for the Wii U version of “Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate” will be on Nintendo’s servers as opposed to KDDI in Japan, which is something Capcom are happy about (the 3DS version only has local multiplayer).
What are your thoughts about Tri’s servers going down two years after release, as opposed to say, Pokémon, which has had online servers going for almost six years now? Are you also looking forward to Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate?
