I’ve been saying this for over a year now, but it’s good to finally have some confirmation. Pokémon’s fifth generation was an unpredictable and fun one – first, we had a new generation starting on an old console, the Nintendo DS, as opposed to the Nintendo 3DS (although the 3DS wasn’t out in Japan when Black and White were released and was only released a few weeks after the international launch of the games). Then we broke free of the “third version” formula with Black 2 and White 2, as well as having mythical Pokémon like Victini and Meloetta unveiled by means outside of movies. It really was a great time to be a Pokémon fan, but with the quick reveals of Meloetta and Genesect earlier this year, it was clear that Pokémon was moving on.
In an interview with the Japanese Nintendo Life magazine, a New Years greeting card was posted from GameFreak, Pokémon’s developer. As part of the New Year message, Junichi Masuda, Director of GameFreak, said that the world of Pokémon will evolve even further in 2013. While this statement is rather ambiguous, to those following the franchise it is a pretty clear message.
Are you excited at the possibility of Pokémon moving onto the Nintendo 3DS? What “evolutions” to the world would you like to see?
