A while back, Nintendo confirmed that the Wii U console uses Near Field Communication technology, like like the Portal of Power from the Skylanders series. However, as of now, now games have utilised it. Recently, Shigeru Miyamoto made comments that soon Nintendo will be showing off his this technology will be used in games. Thanks to this month’s CoroCoro Magazine, we now have some information.
The first game to utilise the NFC feature will be the Wii U eShop exclusive Pokémon Rumble U. The game is due out in Japan on 24th April for 1800yen (£12.60) and fans will be able to purchase the game’s iconic figures from Pokémon Centre stores for 200yen (£1.40) each and have them appear in the game when pressed against the Wii U’s NFC reader. Like with Skylanders, a figure’s levels and progress will be stored on the figure itself. 6 standard and 1 special figure will go on sale on the same day as the game.
No information has been confirmed about a possible European or American launch of the game, but would you like to see it here?
