Warning: Update at your own risk. Reports have come in of people having their systems crash when trying to access the new StreetPass store (including mine). Nintendo have been contacted about the situation.
This evening, Nintendo released a 3DS system update for Japanese and European consoles (with America to follow later). This new system update gives users the ability to back-up the save data of digitally purchased content (including Virtual Console games) – although for some reason, this feature isn’t available for Animal Crossing: New Leaf or Pokémon: Dream Radar or DSiWare (another thing we have asked Nintendo about). The system update also includes a makeover to StreetPass Mii Plaza, introducing StreetPass Squad, StreetPass Garden, StreetPass Battle and StreetPass Mansion. These additional games have to be purchased from the Nintendo eShop and cost £4.49 each (or £13.49 for all four).
To celebrate this, Nintendo have released a new puzzle panel – New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U.
The ability to back up games will come as a huge relief to some people, as digitally purchased content is tied to a user’s console as opposed to an account (even on the Wii U, which has an account system).
We recommend that players do not update their systems until Nintendo has commented on the problems people are having with this new update.
More on this as it comes.
