It’s always a daunting thought when it comes to playing a game in an established franchise that you’ve never played before – is any prior knowledge of past games needed? If so, are those games still in print? Fortunately, the producer of the latest game in Capcom’s Ace Attorney franchise, Motohide Eshiro has spoken up about the upcoming Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies, which is the 7th game in the franchise and assured prospective players that this game provides a firm starting point for anyone new to the franchise:
If you start with Dual Destinies you really won’t feel that lost. It is a brand new story we have revamped the user interface and done a couple of other tweaks to make the it a little more user friendly for newcomers. What we haven’t done is made the game easier, because that wasn’t what we were trying to do. But I think we did succeed in making it easier to get into and I would even suggest that playing this one first and then going back and playing the older ones on your DS or iOS or something like that is a perfectly legitimate way to enjoy the series as well. I think this one would be a pretty good starting point actually.
This is of course, very encouraging as the previous game in the main chronology, Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney is now over 5 years old and unlike the first three in the series, it wasn’t ported to WiiWare.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies was released in Japan earlier this year and is due out in North America in Europe as a Nintendo eShop exclusive title later this year.
