During the early days of the Nintendo 3DS, one of the more infamous titles released was Senran Kagura: Portrait of the Girls, an action video game starring numerous busty women. Apparently, the whole project came together when producer Kenichiro Takaki decided to make a 3D game and within about 30 seconds, he decided that the one thing people want to see most in 3D, is boobs. Senran Kagura: Portrait of the Girls is a side-scrolling game where the more damage a character takes, the less clothes they end up wearing.
Due to the sexualised nature of the game, many people doubted that the game would ever be released outside of Japan and Ken Berry of Marvelous USA previously outright stated that while they had considered releasing the game digitally, they were unsure due to the nature of the game. However, a domain registration has been dug up, for the domain name “hanzonationalacademy.com”, registered by XSEED games (a subsidiary of Marvelous USA). At first this may seem like nothing, but a quick search will reveal that the Hanzo National Academy is the name of the setting of the first Senran Kagura game.
Recently, the game has spawned a television anime series which has been licensed in North America by FUNimation Entertainment, as well as multiple manga series’, one of which has been licensed by North American manga company Seven Seas Entertainment. So are the busty ninjas about to make their western debut?
