Earlier this year, it was revealed that Capcom’s Nintendo 3DS exclusive Phoenix Wright – Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies (known in Japan as Gyakuten Saiban 5), the fifth game in the main Ace Attorney series of court-room visual novels, will be released in the West this autumn as a digital download on the Nintendo eShop. Many fans of the franchise called on Capcom to release the game in a physical cartridge format, but a recent question and answer session with series producer Motohide Eshiro has made it clear that a physical release won’t be happening.
The main reason that was cited was that due to text heavy games requiring a lot of time to be localised, the development team wanted to reduce the time gap between the Japanese and Western releases as much as possible, so by cutting out the manufacturing side of a physical release, they can ensure a speedier release.
What are you thoughts on physical vs digital? Is the lack of a physical cartridge a deal breaker for you?
