It is highly unlikely that anyone not currently in the anime fandom has not heard of Attack On Titan (known in Japan as Shingeki no Kyojin), the dystopian dark fantasy manga focusing on what remains of humanity and their struggle against the “Titan” giants that threaten to wipe them out. Since an anime adaptation of the manga started airing in Japan earlier this year, the series has seen its popularity skyrocket prompting numerous forms of merchandise including yes, games.
Attack On Titan: The Wings Of Counterattack is a 3DS action game that is being developed by Spike Chunsoft for a release in Japan later this year. Considering the popularity of the source material (which is constantly filling out the weekly New York Times manga best sellers lists) and the fact that unlike a lot of games, this one isn’t a visual novel, we contacted NIS America, who had recently announced plans to localise the first Danganronpa title (another Spike Chunsoft game with an anime currently airing) for the PlayStation Vita next year. David Alonso, the US marketing co-ordinator for press relations, was kind enough to get back to us:
“As of right now we have no news on localizing the Attack on Titan game for 3DS, but if any of that changes in the future, you can find out by subscribing to our newsletter.”
