Nintendo may have officially declared 2013 as the “Year of Luigi”, but it’s hard to deny that the true hero of this year was the company’s latest handheld console, the Nintendo 3DS. The little guy who was once deemed a failure and left to die, but quickly came back with a sucker punch to the groin to all those who called it. This year the console has received numerous fantastic software titles, such as Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Fire Emblem: Awakening, Pokémon X/Y and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. These core titles have obviously led to a surge in hardware sales, with MCV UK reporting that the number of consoles in the Nintendo 3DS family (2DS/3DS/3DS XL) sold since the launch of the original 3DS in 2011 has reached 2 million in the United Kingdom!
That’s basically the equivalent of almost all of the population of Latvia owning a 3DS family console.
