After its release in Japan back in November 2012, gamers worldwide were hotly anticipating a localised release of Level-5 and Capcom’s Nintendo 3DS crossover game Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright – Ace Attorney, which sees Level-5’s puzzle-loving professor and Capcom’s ace attorney thrown into a weird medieval city known as Labyrinthia, where the two end up having to defend a young girl Espella Cantabella from accusations of witchcraft, as well as uncover the mystery behind the mysterious Story Teller, who seemingly has the ability to turn whatever he writes into reality. Fortunately, a release outside of Japan was finally announced during a Nintendo Direct segment last August.
Last Friday, the game was finally released in Europe both as a physical game and as a digital download on the Nintendo eShop, earning enough sales in its opening weekend to reach #6 on the Individual Format chart, making it the second highest new entry after #3’s Diablo III: Reaper of Souls. On the All-Format chart, it entered at #15. The Individual Format entry is higher than Nintendo’s own The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, which entered the charts at #8.
Yoshi’s New Island which was released three weeks ago is still flutter jumping along the charts, only sinking five places on the All-Format Chart from it’s previous standing at #16 to #21 (and #16 to #20 on the Individual Format) and despite being released over six months ago, GameFreak’s Pokémon X and Pokémon Y pair have finally dropped out of the Individual Format chart after ranking for over six months, although they’re still hanging on in the All Format chart, with Pokémon Y at #36 and Pokémon X at #40.
