At E3 this year, Nintendo surprised a lot of people when they revealed Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker for the Wii U. Although the character first appeared in Super Mario Galaxy, it would be in Super Mario 3D World where he would attract attention due to his unique puzzle-based mini-stages. The announcement that he was receiving his own solo game was one that either attracted an unhealthy amount of enthusiasm (like from William Robinson) or scepticism (like from myself). It was however, slated to drop at the most opportune time – this holiday season, alongside the big hitter Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
However, for fans in Europe, they might have to put a slight rain-check on their plans to explore with the Captain. Nintendo’s latest earnings report has confirmed that while the title is still on track for a Winter 2014 release in Japan and North America, it has been pushed back slightly in Europe and is now expected to launch in January 2015.
It’s also worth noting that Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem, the Atlus-Intelligent Systems collaboration that was first announced in January 2013, still exists. It and Devil’s Third are currently the only games on Nintendo’s launch schedule to not have any set release period; simply saying “TBD”.
