During the Nintendo Direct segment earlier this week, the internet was set on fire when Nintendo opened with a trailer for a brand new game announcement: The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, which will be released exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS in Spring 2015. Following the 2011 release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, fans have been clamouring for the fourteen year old N64 sequel to be remade.
In a Miiverse post made this morning, the Zelda series’ producer Eiji Aonuma revealed that the remake of the game, which is considered the darkest in the franchise’s history, has actually been in development for quite some time – for over three years. Production on the remade title actually started three years ago, following the release of the Ocarina of Time remake in June 2011. The reason for taking so long to announce it, is because Aonuma and the rest of the developers were working on trying to improve the gameplay of the original to a degree they felt confident about before revealing the game to the public.
