On every morning without fail we will find our social media feeds, our papers and news desks bombarding our senses with tantalising tales of celebrity misbehaviour; be they intoxicated incidents, controversial comments or accepting a cameo in an Adam Sandler movie. These articles illicit a number of reactions ranging from rapturous laughter to disgusted condemnation but we rarely take a moment to reflect on the individuals affected by such scandals until unfortunately, they find themselves on our very doorsteps.
After spending quarter of a century living in his older brother’s shadow with limited opportunities to take a spotlight of his own, 2013 was a momentous occasion for one Italian plumber and part-time ghost hunter, who found his endeavours commemorated with the “Year Of Luigi”. For many it was an innocent celebration of a man dedicated to the freedom of the Mushroom Kingdom, but photographs have recently surfaced suggesting that following in the footsteps of many who had fame suddenly thrust upon them, the celebrity status may have driven Luigi Mario off the rails.
Pictured enjoying a tender moment with the affectionately named Green Mario is none other than the up-and-coming performing artist Hatsune Miku, who was promoting her latest release Hatsune Miku: Project Mirai 2 at the time. According to accounts of individuals who witnessed the meeting, the “Vocaloid” singer was initially nervous around the man of the hour before being eased by Luigi’s friendly and chivalrous behaviour. Those hoping for a happy future for the plumber and pop artist however, might be shocked to learn that Luigi has been enjoying the company of another woman for the past fifteen years.
After her Kingdom of Sarasaland was saved by Mario Mario in 1989, Princess Daisy accepted an invitation to attend the 2000 inaugural Mario Tennis tournament and was introduced to her saviour’s younger brother. The two hit it off almost instantly and the partnership between Luigi Mario and Princess Daisy has long since extended beyond the confines of AstroTurf and has become as celebrated as the famous union between Mario Mario and the Mushroom Kingdom’s Princess Toadstool. While the latter has frequently joined the Mario brothers on their escapades, Luigi has infamously remained protective of Princess Daisy, keeping their public profile low with the two limiting her non-State appearance to leisurely activities such as sports. With the pair making an appearance for this week’s Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, the effect of this event, if any, is unknown.
When contacted, The Palace Of Sarasaland declined to comment.
