The British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced this evening that Nintendo’s innovative Wii U shooter Splatoon has been awarded with the events “Game In 2015” award, beating out nominees Adventure Time Game Wizard, Minecraft and Yoshi’s Woolly World. GameFreak’s Nintendo 3DS remake pair Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were nominated for the “Kids’ Vote – Game In 2015” category but lost out to MInecraft.
Following the new intellectual property’s launch in May of this year, Nintendo’s first real expansion into the coveted online shooter genre has been an extraordinary success for the company, becoming the sixth highest selling Wii U game with over 2.42 million sales worldwide, as of October 2015.
BAFTA’s “Children’s In 2015” is the twentieth in a series of award shows highlighting exceptional artistic works made for children across the film, television and video game entertainment mediums. This year’s awards show was presented by the British entertainer Ben Smith (aka Doc Brown) at the Roundhouse in London on 22nd November 2015.
