With 2016 marking the twentieth anniversary of one of gaming’s most famous franchises, this year was always going to be a big one for Game Freak’s Pokémon franchise and today, Nintendo have announced that the festivities will be starting off with quite a bang. When the long-awaited Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console releases of the very first Pokémon generation finally land on 27th February 2016, Japanese gamers have known for a while that they will be able to relive the classic Kanto journey with specially coloured Nintendo 2DS bundles and today, Nintendo of Europe have announced that continental trainers will be able to as well.
Each Nintendo 2DS bundle will include the respective coloured console, a copy of either Pokémon Red, Blue or Yellow Version alongside some stickers and a download code for a commemorative theme.
North America however, will receive an exclusive New Nintendo 3DS bundle that includes copies of both Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version and decorative cover-plates depicting the games’ two iconic cover Pokémon, Charizard and Blastoise respectively.
European trainers already wielding New Nintendo 3DS systems won’t have to feel left out though; as Nintendo of Europe have also confirmed that the franchise’s 20th birthday date will also see the release of this commemorative cover plate:
Will you be reliving the classics next month and if so, are you tempted by any of these announcements?
