Not counting the Mega Evolved forms of previously confirmed playable characters Charizard and Sceptile, the roster of Bandai Namco Games’ arcade fighter Pokkén Tournament had yet to welcome a Dragon-type Pokémon into its ranks; until now at least.
The latest issue of the Japanese CoroCoro Magazine has leaked once more and this time, has revealed the identities of three brand new creatures joining the game’s expanding line-up. With the roster so far focusing mainly on classic critters, the Fox Pokémon Braixen has become the first species from the Kalos region to be confirmed for the game. The first evolved stage of Pokémon X/Y starter Fennekin, its play-style focuses on attacking from a distance with moves like Fire Blast.
The honour of the first Dragon-type to take part in the Pokkén Tournament however, lies with a species particularly well known in the handheld games’ competitive circuit: Garchomp. Utilising offensive moves such as Sand Tomb and Dragon Rush, the Mach Pokémon is categorised as a Power Type and has the ability to Mega Evolve. Lastly, following the reveal of the Shadow Mewtwo last October, the publication also confirmed that a standard version of the legendary Pokémon will be playable in the title.
It is worth noting that none of the characters revealed today contain the character “ラ” in their Japanese names; a feature reserved for another fighter announcement coming on 15th January.
Pokkén Tournament was first released in Japanese arcades last summer and a Wii U port is currently scheduled for a worldwide release in Spring.
