Following confirmation that the Grass-type Sceptile had been added to the growing roster of Bandai Namco Games’ fighter Pokkén Tournament, many people assumed that the third and final Stage 2 Hoenn starter was a shoe-in to join its peers Sceptile and Blaziken, especially given a tease from the title’s official Twitter account earlier this week. In a surprising curve-ball announcement though, the latest addition to the anticipated brawler is not the Water-type many were expecting but instead, is a Fire-type.
The honour actually belongs to the Luring Pokémon Chandelure (シャンデラ), a Ghost/Fire-type that made its debut in the Nintendo DS titles Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version; marking the first character to be from the fifth generation of games. Chandelure joins its spectral comrade Gengar in haunting the game’s character select screen.
Pokkén Tournament was released in Japanese arcades last summer and is currently scheduled to be released on the Wii U in Japan this March, before launching internationally in the Spring.
