Fate/EXTELLA Launches Worldwide This Year!

While you enjoy MVM Films’ home video release of ufotable’s Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works anime, preparations are being made for the Holy Grail War to be waged on a new stage this year. Our friends at Marvelous confirmed today to release the highly anticipated action game Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star in Europe and Australia on PlayStation 4 and Vita this winter, joining previously confirmed Japanese and North American releases slated for this year.

An independent story following the events of Fate/Extra (PSP, Ghostlight), Nero and her master have won the previous war and rule over the surviving servants with the Regalia ring as proof of their victory. When Nero is confronted by another adorning a Regalia however, a new battle unfolds that will see unlikely alliances from across the Fate pantheon as they prepare for a conflict that may very well tear the world apart.

Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star will put players in the role of either a male or female master as they follow three unique narrative threads written by original Fate/stay night scribe Konoko Nasu and Hikaru Sakurai (Fate/Grand Order). While the main story will be told from the perspectives of Nero, Tamamo no Mae and Atilla, additional servants will have bonus side stories.

The game will feature a total of sixteen playable servants, with the currently confirmed list being as follows:

  • Nero Claudius (Saber class)
  • Tamamo no Mae (Caster class)
  • Atilla the Hun (Saber class, Fate/Grand Order)
  • Artoria Pendragon (Saber class, Fate/stay night)
  • Elizabeth Bathory (Lancer class)
  • Gawain (Saber class)
  • Gilgamesh (Archer class)
  • Iskander (Rider class, Fate/Zero)
  • Jeanne d’Arc (Ruler class, Fate/Aprocrypha)
  • Karna (Lancer class, Fate/Extra CCC)
  • Lü Bu Fèngxiān (Berserker class)
  • Nameless (Archer class)

Fate/EXTELLA: The Umbral Star is currently slated to be released on Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Vita platforms in Japan on 10 November 2016, followed by western releases by XSEED Games (North America) and Marvelous (Europe and Australia).

Fate/stay night Unlimited Blade Works Part 2 is currently available on DVD in the United Kingdom courtesy of MVM Films, with a Collector’s Edition blu-ray to follow on 29 August. The company will also be releasing a blu-ray boxset of Studio DEEN’s 2006 Fate/stay night anime on 19 September 2016. An anime adaptation of Fate/Extra, titled Fate/Extra Last Encore, is currently in production at SHAFT (Puella Magi Madoka MagicaMonogatari) for release next year.
