Pokémon Sun & Moon just couldn’t settle for the record of the most pre-orders for Nintendo games ever, could they?
Now, as well as feeling like a breath of fresh air for the long-running franchise, they’ve only gone and been the fastest-selling Nintendo titles in the Americas as well. Blimey.
Under a fortnight has passed since Sun & Moon launched (less in Europe, not that we’re bitter), and in that time the Pokémon games have sold 3.7 million copies. That’s quite a lot – in fact, it’s 85% more than Pokémon X & Y (October 2013) managed in the same time period!
Unsurprisingly, such stratospheric figures have led to Nintendo speaking out about them. Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Doug Bowser had this to say: “With these huge sales figures, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon have proved themselves as two of the hottest video games to buy this holiday season,”
He continues on to say: “With great reviews and outstanding fan response, these next iterations in the Pokémon series are sure to please any player in the family.”
Talking of Pokémon X & Y, that pair currently sit on 15.64 million sold so far, with the slightly more recent Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire (November 2014) on 13.18 million.
Who knows what the potential sales figures for Sun & Moon are – it could very well surpass both of those pairs.
