Us Tanuki Bridge writers can write our thoughts on, findings and experiences from the latest Pokémon titles – Sun & Moon – but it’s also really cool to talk to you guys about how you are finding the games.
To do that, we took to social media and asked you specifically what your favourite new parts of the games were. With Sun & Moon introducing plenty of fresh aspects to the series, there was a lot for you to choose from! That’s enough from me; let’s get into how you responded!
The End of HMs
Gabriel Gil: “Back in Pokémon X/Y the best new thing for me was it’s update on the Exp. Share item. As it was given early in game and distributed experience points to all of your Pokémon within your party like a traditional RPG.
Thankfully this comes back to Pokémon Sun/Moon, but probably the best new addition to this game is the rider Pokémon as we no longer have to force certain moves to our party in order to traverse to the next area.”
Tyler Oakley: “The Rider Pager is the best thing because it doesnt force HMs onto Pokémon and gives you more freedom in how to traverse the islands. On the other hand, the Maps are not detailed at all so its a cr*pshoot on how to actually navigate on the islands.”
Jennifer Scott: “Love the ride pager, and love the improvement to the refresh feature–reduces the need to farm for berries. Have not gotten around to breeding yet, so I can’t comment. But I think the EV reset is going to be easier with Sun and Moon as well!”
Thomas J Hein: “Poke Pelago; passively training Pokémon, raising berries and collecting items like that is a big help in a game with so much content.”
Oakley Ocasio: “I like the Poké Pelago, how in the background is random Pokémon cries (it makes the world feel more alive), and Alola Golem is an Electric/Rock type. He’s my tank haha.”
James Best: “I’m catching the Ultra Beasts now, and I have to say I really like their designs. They feel distinct and otherworldly compared to other Pokemon, which is fitting since they are aliens after all.”
Nevio Dvoršak: “… only had 1 Ultra Beast appear and I must say these look interesting and so does the story connected to them and this other dimension.”
Jacob Scott: “Easily the best story I have ever played in a Pokémon game. I love the characters, the humor, and the mystery.”
James Best: “I also thought Team Skull were a lot of fun. They channeled the appeal of Team Rocket from the cartoon, being a bunch of bumbling idiots no one really considers a threat. It’s a nice change of pace from playing the villainous team completely straight-faced.”
More Fans of that Crazy Team Skull
Oliver Hailes: “Team Skull or the trials”
Richard Mycaruba Richard: “Team Skull with how silly they are”
Chester Drusilla Hartmann: “I absolutely love all of the music for this generation. And Rotom Dex is easily one of my favorite characters with all of his comments, not to mention a good guide. At first, I thought Rotom was going to be Navi-level annoying [the infamous character from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time], but turns out pretty useful at reminding me what I was doing in the story, or just funny commentary to cutscenes. Its cool to have your own in-game Dexter like the original show, but… with slightly less sass.”
The Very Best

This guy knows. Rowlet is the best starter. He knows.
