The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be receiving bonus downloadable content following launch, the series’ producer Eiji Aonuma announced in a video uploaded to Nintendo’s YouTube channels.
An Expansion Pass will be available to purchase on the game’s launch day, 3rd March 2017, for £17.99 ($19.99/€19.99). This will give players access to two DLC packs, which will be released in Summer and Winter 2017, respectively. The full details are as follows:
Expansion Pass Bonus – 3rd March 2017:
- 3 New Treasure Chests
- Found in the Grand Plateau and contain useful items, including exclusive clothing.
DLC Pack 1 – Summer 2017
- New “Cave of Trials” challenge
- New Hard Mode
- Additional map feature
DLC Pack 2 – Winter 2017

While Koei Tecmo’s Hyrule Warriors crossover was adorned with additional download content, this will mark the first time the mainline Zelda content has received additional content. Nintendo have noted in their press release however, that the two packs cannot be purchased individually.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is currently slated to launch for Nintendo’s Wii U and Switch home consoles, worldwide, on 3rd March 2017.
