Late last year, Niantic’s mobile game phenomenon Pokémon GO tested the waters with expanding beyond the original, classic characters by introducing “baby” forms, that were originally introduced in the Game Boy Color pair Pokémon Gold Version and Pokémon Silver Version. Now, the floodgates are being opened and over 80 species from the Johto Region, including favourites like Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile, will be unleashed on the real world later this week!
As with the original Gold/Silver games, this update will also introduce genders to Pokémon GO – with some species even having visual variations! Other new features, are as follows:
- Evolution Items: Older species like Scyther and Onix have brand new evolved forms, which require items that can be found at PokéStops.
- New Encounter Gameplay: When you encounter Pokémon in the wild, don’t be surprised if they react in new ways as you’re trying to catch them. You’ll also notice the addition of new item carousels that allow you to select Berries and Poké Balls directly from the encounter screen. Hone your skills and catch those elusive Pokémon!
- New Berries: Nanab and Pinap Berries will be available from PokéStops. Nanab Berries will slow a Pokémon’s movement, while a Pinap doubles the Candy you receive if you capture is a success.
- New Avatars and Expanded Wardrobe:Now you’ll be able to give your avatar a complete upgrade! Customize your look with a whole new selection of hats, shirts, pants, and other items.
Are you still playing Pokémon GO? If not, will these new Pokémon bring you back in?
