Universal Pictures, the worldwide film distributor who have recently successfully entered the anime home video scene, have quietly confirmed the details of their 2017 release today, finally giving a date to C-Station’s slice-of-life comedy Starmyu.
In a post on the AnimeUKNews forum, NBC Universal noted that while this year’s releases will be unveiled at MCM London Comic Con at the end of this month, Starmyu will be released on 7th August 2017.
The series will be released on both DVD and Blu-ray formats, but won’t be quite as premium as their previous Collector’s Edition releases. Instead, Starmyu will be housed in a standard amaray case, which will include art-cards and a card slip cover. While previous releases have already been priced favourably against similar releases on the market, Universal also confirmed Starmyu will naturally have a lower SRP than their other titles. Pre-orders will open once artwork is approved by Japan.
Funimation, the U.S. distributor of Starmyu, describes the series as:
First-year Yuta Hoshitani enters the esteemed Ayanagi Academy with dreams of following in his idol’s footsteps. But competition starts the moment he steps through the doors when some of the best young talent in the industry try out for a spot in the musical department. Catching the eye of an eccentric member of the academy’s elite Kao Council, Hoshitani and five other misfits are given the chance they were hoping for. With egos as strong as their talent, it’s up to Hoshitani’s shining personality to bring Nayuki, Tengenji, Kuga, and Tsukigami together for the biggest performance of the semester. While the strict authorities of the Kao Council try to put an end to their inventive musicals, these five young stars practice day and night for a show that will shake the school!
