Today Nintendo brought us a brand new Pokémon Direct and with it the announcement of two new main series games, as well as a deluxe version of Pokkén Tournament!
First up was the announcement of Pokkén Tournament DX for the Nintendo Switch. The game is an updated version of Pokkén on the Wii U and includes Croagunk, Darkrai, Scizor and Empoleon as fighters. These four had perviously only been playable through the arcade version of Pokkén Tournament. The deluxe version of the game also brings with it a brand new fighter in the form of Dexidueye from Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.
Pokken Tournament DX will launch for the Nintendo Switch on the 22nd of September. It brings with it some new gameplay modes such as Team Battle, Group Match mode and Daily Challenges.
At the tail-end of the Pokkén reveal we were treated to the announcement of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon. The two games will offer an alternate take on the story of Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. The trailer also showed off new forms of legendary Pokémon Solgaleo and Lunala and made mention of there being new Pokémon for the games, but it could just be referring to new forms for the legendaries and not much else.
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon will be released for the Nintendo 3DS worldwide on the 17th November. It seems like the curse of European releases being later than everywhere else has finally been removed!
In one final surprise it was also announced that Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver will be released on the 3DS’ Virtual Console on 22nd September and will be compatible with Pokémon Bank. You can find a trailer for the two here.
