While we all wait in nervous anticipation for Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming live-action outing as Detective Pikachu, everything’s ticking over as usual back in Japan – where next year’s theatrical anime film has just been announced!
This year, usual franchise convention was broken with Pokémon The Movie: I Choose You, which opted to celebrate the anime’s 20th anniversary by going back to the very beginning, retelling Ash’s first meeting with Pikachu. Now, it looks like we may see the continuation of that Ash’s journey in the tentatively titled Pokémon the Movie 2018, revealed on the Japanese variety show Oha Suta:
The film will open in Japan on 13 July 2018. Tetsu Yajima (Pokémon The Series: XY) is directing the co-production between OLM Inc. and Attack On Titan‘s WIT Studio, with Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You director Kunihiko Yuyama serving as Animation Supervisor and Character Designs by Shizue Kaneko (Pan de Peace!). It’s worth noting that the song at the end, is Lugia’s theme from Pokémon the Movie 2000.
We’ll likely hear more news about the film, including its full title, in February 2018. Of course, you’ll find all the latest news here as and when it happens!
