A new image from the Japanese magazine CoroCoro seems to confirm that the upcoming Pokémon the Movie 2018 it will be a remake of Pokémon the Movie 2000!
Last year, the 20th anniversary of the popular Pokémon anime was marked with Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! – a retelling of the initial meeting between Pikachu and Ash Ketchum. On July 13th 2018 the follow-up, Pokémon the Movie 2018, will officially open in Japan, and we now have a new poster for the film.
Generation II Legendary Lugia takes centre stage, which heavily hints that this will be another retelling; this time, a remake of Pokémon the Movie 2000 – Lugia’s first anime appearance and the second Pokémon film. Fans had already speculated whether this was the case, after the initial teaser ended with Lugia’s theme from Pokémon the Movie 2000.
It appears that this will be a continuation of Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You! That film was the story we knew but in a new continuity, and Pokémon the Movie 2018 may well be telling the story of Lugia in this new universe. CoroCoro states that their March issue will have more info, so stay tuned!
