2018 is truly the year of dreams. First Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker gets announced for the Nintendo Switch, and now there is official confirmation that the PS1 Spyro the Dragon trilogy is getting a remake!
Named the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, the package will be releasing on September 21st (the 20th anniversary of the series) and include Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon (y’know, the one with the skateboarding). Toys for Bob are the ones updating the classic games; in a post on the PlayStation Blog, Design Director Toby Schadt notes that they are not only “maximizing fidelity (art, animation, visual effects, sound effects, music, controls)” but also “integrating quality-of-life improvements that modern players expect (analog stick camera control, auto-save system, more fast-travel options, etc.)”.
A new rendition of the brilliant Steven Copeland soundtrack on PS1 will be part of the remake, while Tom Kenny – who was the voice actor for Spyro in the 2nd and 3rd games – will be returning.
The Spyro Reignited Trilogy comes to PS4 and Xbox One on September 21st. You can pre-order it for the price of £34.99/$39.99 on the PlayStation Store now, which gets you a dynamic theme and avatar as bonuses.
